My question involves a consumer law issue in the State of: California
Friday my car was stolen, ( keep in mind i live in oakland) then Saturday I get a call late night saying my car was found in Tulare, basically 3 hours away. I was informed a towing company has it. Monday I can't go because memorial day and tuesday I had classes. I went Tuesday night and today morning Wednesday I get my release form from the police station. i go to the towing company and they said I had to pay 470 in fees. 200 for towing, 200 for storage and 70 in Lien fees. I go to check the car out, it doesn't start, it's trashed and basically not derivable 3 hours on the way back. I tried talking itoff to lower the price because i go to college and such however no luck. I ask if there is a junkyard so they can dispose of it. They said yea, what happens is if i do that I won't have to pay any upcoming fees for it being in the lot. He said they will take care of it and all i need to do is send in my pink slip. My question is what do i need to do? He said since they filed a lien, in 30 days the vehicle is theirs? I'm kind of lost. If i send them the pink slip, is there anything else I should do? Like go to the DMV and let them know or what>?
Please help.
