My question involves landlord-tenant law in the State of: California
I have a wonderful relationship with my landlords, but I have a carpet concern on moving out. I rented their home just under 7 years. At the time of move in, the carpet was clean. We don't smoke, we have 1 cat, who has not damaged a thing, but my now 73 year old mother has been using a Scooter Store scooter since before we moved in (which they knew) and the gentlemen cleaning my carpets are not 100% certain they will be able to remove the wear pattern from the carpet. My landlords purchased the home in 2006, and may have put in new carpet, so now it is 10 years old. Can they charge me for new carpet if the Scooter stain/wear pattern cannot be removed to perfect condition? It would seem this would be discrimination against the elderly and handicapped. Thank you.
