New here, so I will try my best to be brief. My autistic son has been on ssi since he was 4. My husband never works the same amount of hours, so we are monthly reporters. Turn in checks every month. Sometimes it takes them months to find them and has resulted in a lot of overpayments. He got laid off a while ago and found another job. Last year, he got a one time pension payout from that job. We did not hide this from ss. He got the check on dec 28, we got a copy of it and put it in with his other checks and we dropped them off at the ss office He wrote a note explaining that this was a one time payment and I even called the rep who looks at our checks and said we got a pension check. Never heard from them. She finally finds our checks 10 months later and we get a letter saying my son was not eligible for ssi for the entire year and we owe 8k in overpayment. The pension made him 3105 over the 5k resource limit. We spent that on house payments, loans, car payments, getting my son clothes, and just other basic needs. Our bank account shows we were only over the limit for one month. We got copies of all the checks, copies of when our bank acct. was below the resource limit and filled out that request for reconsideration. We took everything in on oct 29. Someone called me on dec 9 and said it does look like we were only ineligible for 2 months and our payment should go on soon. Nothing happened, so I keep calling to see what's going on. Each time I call, they just say it's being worked on. The lady who called dec 9 is done and our paperwork is with the person who looks at the checks. I called again to see what I could do and all they said was reconsideration cases can take up to a year! Will it really take that long? We have all the proof, so not sure what else they are looking for. They can look at any bankstatement they want. We did not hide money or give anyway. Should I just ride it out and hope they get done by march or april? I hate to keep going up there, but not sure if that bugs them.
