Hiring a Lawyer: Hot Shot General Litigator or Newb Criminal Defense That Was a Prosecutor

I am facing a potential criminal charge (Class D felony, traffic related)

Choice A:
"Hot shot" general litigator that seems to be quite well respected in my community (and where the charges are filed) that works with a very well-known and respected "general litigation" law firm, and who has represented very big clients in business and contractual matters (don't know much about his criminal defense experience) for around 20 years. His managing partner is border-line legend in the community, is also a general litigator, and has done plenty criminal defense in his many decades as an attorney. I met with him too, and he recommended the partner over himself as he felt his own fee was too high and that his partner could handle my issue just fine.

Choice B
I met with a dedicated criminal defense attorney that works for a fairly well-known defense attorney in a larger firm, who worked 6 years as a prosecutor and has 1-1.5 years in criminal defense (don't now how many cases in that time).

Fairly good vibes with both. Similar cost to retain both. Choice A quoted a flat fee that covers everything (including trial if it goes there), choice B has an upfront fee that doubles if it goes to trial. Net cost is about the same (B is a little higher). Money is a concern, but less so that getting the best attorney.

Thoughts?
