My question involves a traffic ticket from the state of: Missouri
Recently my car broke down shortly after leaving the auto shop, so I left it on the side of the road. The following day it had been towed. It's such an old car I didn't want to deal with it so I asked the tow guy if I would be able to just sign the car over to him instead of paying the fee to get it out. He agreed. A few days go by and he tells me he is back to work after an auto accident and that I needed to come with the title to sign it over. I couldn't find the title, so he refused to allow me to get my belongings out of my vehicle.
My question is: is he legally allowed to do this? If I have a Verification of Coverage from my insurance company with my name, VIN, make, and model would that suffice in lieu of the title? I have over $500 worth of audio equipment in the back of the vehicle and I would really not like to lose it, so any other suggestions are welcome.
