My question involves a traffic ticket from the state of: Illinois
I received a citation for Failure to give information after striking unattended vehicle. It was at a bar with narrow spots and the police saw me. I slightly tapped the car and left the scene and he issued me a ticket. However, when I returned again to see if there was damage. The owner of the car that i hit was a fellow classmate and he said he saw no visible damage. I have to appear in court. my question is do i need a lawyer or can i represent myself pro se or can i request for a lawyer (public defender). If the owner of the car said there was no damage and he was fine, will the charge be dropped or reduced. I know the ticket is if charged fully is a misdemeanor with possible jail time and fine. However, I have a clean record and this is my first accident. I was a afraid and should have known better than to just leave.
