Traffic Accidents: Driver Passes on Right, Cuts Me Off, Slams on Brakes, I Rear-End His Car

I'm on 95 Northbound, there's one lane on my immediate right, and then an On-ramp, which merges with that same lane.
I see in my rear-view mirror, two vehicles behind me, a car pulls into the right lane, and pulls forward.
This same car is now wedged between my lane and the oncoming traffic from the On-ramp.
The driver is riding the white line, and coming into my lane.
He doesn't give a crap that I'm in the lane.
I know that he's trying to bully his way through, so for a moment I hold my position, but he continues to come into my lane.
So to avoid an accident, I let off the gas and brake enough to let jerky-boy through, into the lane in front of me.

At this point, I flip the guy the bird. He already knows he's done wrong because he's looking in his rearview mirror at me.
He flips me off, and then taps his brake.
I immediately apply cautious braking, as I figure it's just the ol' "I'll show you whose the king of the road" crap that so many RI'ers do.
But then he puts on the brakes again, and doesn't release.
I rear-end his car.

He gets out of his car and says "We can do this one of two ways. You can give me your insurance information and pay for my bumper or call the Police. I don't like dealing with Police."
I told the guy he was out of his mind. He's the one at fault for slamming on his brakes, and that I have every intention of calling the Police for his criminal behavior.
He says "Do you have insurance?"
I say "Of course."
He says "Good, because I think my back hurts" as he smirks and walks back to his car.

I call the Police and give them a brief description of what happened.
The officer arrives, and asks for my license and registration.
That's it. He doesn't ask me for any recounting of what happened.
He spends a lot of time with the people I rear-ended.

Ambulance shows up, and the woman is carried away ... she's pregnant.
The guy is, at first claiming back injury, but refuses to go in the ambulance.
Even the ambulance guys said to me "Some people will do anything to get a piece of the pie".

The police report says that the other driver put on his brakes "because of traffic conditions", and that I didn't have time to apply my brakes.
I called the police officer and told him that his description was presumptive, and that he cannot possibly know that the other driver put on his brakes "because of traffic conditions", and that in fact, the ONLY reason he put on his brakes was in order to (at least at first) to scare me, and then perhaps his reflexes got the best of him, because I cannot think anyone would be so stupid and to purposefully put on his brakes on a busy highway, with his pregnant girlfriend in the car.

Anyway, this was only about a week ago.
Should I insist on making an adjustment to the police report?
Does it even matter?
Do I even have a chance of reversing this seeing as he was driving in a criminal fashion?
I haven't a dash cam, so I've no proof.
It's my witness against theirs, and from what I understand, RI doesn't permit the use of Polygraph (in which I'd be MORE than happy to participate), at least not in courts of law.
I just don't know what to think or do at this point.
I called the Police because I'm a believer in truth and justice, though I know that reality is often devoid of both.

Sorry for the novella.
Any advice, whether positive or negative is welcome.
I just need to know how I ought to be thinking here.

Thanks in advance.
