My question involves a traffic ticket from the state of: Alabama
I got a speeding ticket this morning, first one in over 15 years.
I am in the process of moving to GA. Will be moving in 5 days. I have already changed my AL DL to a GA DL but still have AL plates and insurance. On the ticket everything is correct except for all of the DL info.
I handed him my temp. GA DL. He put it down as a AL DL, with my AL address, not the current GA one (I have already established residency in GA). It has my GA DL number (which is 9 numbers opposed to the 7 that would be on a AL DL). It also has the class of DL wrong. It says class C, which is a normal personal use DL in GA....but that it a passenger/hazmat DL in AL (AL is class D for personal use).
So, I am wondering what might happen if I either decide to hire a lawyer to fight it for me since I am out of state, or just pay it. Will the points follow me to GA for insurance purposes when the DL info on the ticket is so messed up? There is no reference to GA on the ticket at all even though I had a GA DL. Or should I pay an attorney believing that all of this should be enough to hopefully get the ticket taken care of since the officer could not even realize what state my DL was from? Not really paying attention to details on the officer's end.
