My question involves criminal law for the state of: Washington DC
I got a disturbing phone call today that I have been accused of sexual assault back in Feb of 2007 while on a work trip in DC. The investigator hinted at her being too intoxicated and me taking advantage of her. I travel all of the time for a living and go to DC all of the time. I can't say I have been a saint while on the road but never anything like this and that is why I just don't remember meeting her. I don't remember the accuser at all (was only given first name). Not the last name, her profession, where we met or anything. The investigator said she knew my profession because we are both in Law Enforcement, that I was married at the time and had a business card of mine but that was it.
What on earth do I do now? I can't afford an attorney! I can't afford my wife or family finding out (how do I explain I used to run around and can't even remember the people I met). Please tell me the accusers word after 10 years isn't something a DA would move forward with? I have been in Law Enforcement for over 15 years and never had anything like this happen or been involved in anything like this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
