I was on vacation in Door County, Wisconsin and on the way back up to Ephraim from picking my brother up at the airport in Green Bay. Cop got me at 76 in a 55, wrote the ticket at 75 in a 55 (6 points and $225), so he saved me some pain there. I'm a Virginia driver, where 20 over is reckless driving and a misdemeanor, which I'm trying to avoid.
I called the ADA in Door County, who said they would reduce it to 16-19 over and 4 points, but wouldn't reduce the fine. I'm tempted to take this offer, but is this the best I can get or would hiring a lawyer be more effective? I've spoken to a couple of firms in the area that would be able to go for me (so I wouldn't have to buy the plane trip to court), the lowest of which would charge $250, but I'm not sure if that covers just their fee.
I'm happy the ADA offered to reduce the charge slightly, but can I do better?
