My question involves criminal law for the state of: California.
I received mail notification of arraignment for charges filed 8 months after original date of alleged incident. I went to court andhad arraignment postponed three times for time to hire private counsel, which i did accomplish. My lawyer sent me to court with a letter, and istructed me to use the letter if he could not find somebody to step in for him. I went to court and a woman walked up to me and introduced herself and said she would stepping in for my lawyer and representing me for my arraignment but "dont tell me anything confidential because i am your co defendant's attorney also".
My question is the obvious one: Is this legal?
