My question involves a child custody case from the State of: Ohio
My husband passed away early this year. We have resided in Ohio for many years. We were going through a divorce but were still married at the time of his death. His parents asked me to stay, said they would assist me with our children, even though there were already plans to move after the divorce was final. I left my full time job to care for my children and it is just not working. I have made many attempts to get a part-time job, with no such luck. The location we currently reside in has a high poverty rate and lack of jobs. I told their grandmother that I had made the decision to relocate with my mom and other family members, who reside in another state because I need to be happy and financially stable for the children. My children do not know my family very well because we have always lived here and always so far away from everything and everyone. Can his parents be awarded visitation and would they be granted the visitation to occur at the new location or would it be in Ohio (for them), and if so, who would be responsible for the cost of travel for the children? His mom kept asking me during our conversation "are YOU going to pay for them to come here? Because we simply cannot just take off and go to there", and I could not either. Please know that I have never told them they could not speak to or see their grandchildren ever.
