My question involves guardianship in the State of: Alabama
I am engaged to a man living in Alabama. I live in France (but I'm American). We plan to marry in 6 months. My son, age 16, is living with my finance and has started to school (three weeks ago). He wants to play football and they won't allow him to play (they say) unless we are married because the rules of the Alabama football board are so strict. Can we get legal guardianship for this purpose and also to ensure that my fiance can make all decisions for my son? We already have a Power of Attorney (signed and notarized). I am the only one on my son's birth certificate. Emergency Guardianship has been suggested but the cause has to be abandonnment. I don't know why this is so difficult if I give my consent. Obviously we want it quickly so that he can join his team for ballgames that are already underway.
Thank you for any advice.
