My question involves a child custody case from the State of: Missouri
My ex and I had a great co-parenting relationship for 8 years, but after meeting a woman online, marrying her 25 days later and now has done a 180 on how he acts towards me. I found out this woman has lost custody of her children because she medically abused her son and almost starved him to death claiming he had medical issues (the courts say she has Munchhausen's by proxy). Additionally, she was found guilty of neglect of both her children and has documented physical anger issues (she just got off 2 years of probation for punching her ex husband, causing injury to herself and then claiming he did it. Multiple witnesses gave the true story to the police and her self inflicted punch was on the wrong side of her face!). She was required to register on the Child Abuse and Neglect registry in Missouri. She gets 1 hour of supervised visit a week with her kids and 3 phone calls per week supervised by her ex husband. She has an order of protection in place with her and her ex husband so there is no contact other than through a court ordered website.
My ex doesn't feel there is any reason I should be worried about this woman being around our kids. We currently live in different states and haven't been back for a visit since they got married. Both of my kids are upset he'd marry someone they didn't even know existed until the day before they got married, let alone someone they've never met or been around. Neither of them want to even talk to him. Both are in therapy to help deal with all the emotions. My ex doesn't think there should be any reason why they'd be upset either.
Both him and his new wife (who has major mental illness issues) have left nasty voicemails and emails threatening me. His behavior has also changed dramatically towards his family as well. His mother and sister who spent the last 11 years hating me, have completely taken the side of keeping the kids safe.
I'm in talks with an attorney, but wondered what the likely hood would be of getting the judge to not allow this woman around our kids and potentially limiting his visits to supervised because of his erratic behavior and safety of the kids.
What other options might be available?
