Firstly, I/we are in Knoxville,Tn.
My girlfriend was driving her Mother's car and got into an accident on the highway. She hit the back of a semi which had stopped suddenly from a wreck in front of it.
She was taken to the hospital, so didn't make an decisions.
Her mom's car (2004 Chevy Malibu) got towed and they are now threatening to sell her mom's vehicle if she doesn't pay $700. - which I'm guessing is a daily fee from the vehicle being there for a week today.
Her Mom's car has insurance, but they haven't told her anything about anything.
I know nothing at all about law stuff, but it just doesn't seem legit that a towing company can sell your vehicle if you don't pay the towing fee within a short amount of time.
I would think you could make payments to keep them from selling it until you can pay the whole amount.
Are these just scare tactics to try to get her Mom to hurry up and pay, or is it legit?
