Hello:
We recently purchased a parcel of land of which we had a survey done just before purchase as there was no official survey done yet (an old farm parcel). It so happened that one of the corners of the survey landed directly in the yard of a neighbor's property, probably about 6-7 feet or so in from what they believed their property line to be. The surveyor had placed in temporary wooden stakes at the irons of the survey. I noticed that the neighbor moved the wooden stake over about 6 or 7 feet to the edge of what I think they believe to be their property line (where it is mowed). I have not verified if they have touched the survey iron yet. At this point, we would like to get something in writing with them to ensure that there are no future issues with the iron being removed or tampered with, as well as any future disputes over the actual property line. We do not need the small section of land in their "yard", but would like to make sure there is something documented about this. Is there an official type of letter or document we should use for this type of situation? Thanks so much for your help and recommendation.
Regards,
Chris
