My question involves public health law in the State of: New Jersey
I'm looking to get a gun license for recreation, and I have been going to outpatient therapy for almost two years (not a psychiatrist) with a licensed counselor for a short period of depression, I continued to go once in a while just because it felt good, no immediate need. I was prescribed no medications, never had anything related to any hospitalizations, voluntary or involuntary. I was always weary of how going to therapy may affect my background searches in the future, and it kept from going for a long time, even though I wanted to and I felt it was good for me. I would like to get a gun license sooner or later, and the state of NJ requires a Consent For Mental Health Records Search form, I am worried some occasional outpatient treatment will keep from being able to own a gun, does this search extend beyond involuntary or voluntary commitments? Thanks.
