My mother received a speeding ticket in Jan 2016, which we deferred. This was her first ever ticket so we figured it was the easiest thing to do. Then she received another ticket in Feb 2016. Obviously, with insurance premiums on our mind, we hired a lawyer who was told of the deferment and was able to have the 2nd ticket reduced to a "inattentive driving" ticket. We were told at the time and subsequent research showed that it's basically a glorified parking ticket in terms of insurance as it won't get reported. On with life we went...
Feb 2017, she just received a letter from the court that she had violated her terms of the deferment even with the reduced "inattentive driving" ticket. So the questions I have are:
1. Technically, I'm answering my own question but does a "inattentive driving" ticket violate deferment terms?
2. Is this something you can appeal? or is this a done deal?
3. Could someone help me find the King County deferment terms from the source? I've found forums and 3rd party sites but I'd rather read the terms directly from the source and can't seem to locate it. On the county site, all I find are pages to request a deferral instead..
When contacted, the lawyer basically said while the 2nd ticket itself wouldn't go onto insurance, each court is different in terms of deferment violations. I asked if this is "fixable" but the question was not answered, which I figured to be either he doesn't want the case or it's not something we can appeal.
Anyway, thanks in advance.
