Defamation: Employees Retaliated Against Boss by Making False Accusations

My question involves defamation in the state of: GA

A group on employees decided to get together and file false accusations against their boss with HR. These employees are poor performers with documented integrity issues. They made statements to HR with the intent of getting the manager fired. They said the mgr was racist, a bully and sabotaged their work. The managers boss and HR chose not to investigate the matter but decided to demote the mgr because they said it was a perception issue. The mgr has documentation to show the claims were false and also has witnesses who wanted to let HR know that they had heard the employees talking about their plans.

What rights does the mgr have in this case?
