Harassment: Old Former Employer and Employee Are Saying I Was Fired Because of Computer Problems

My question involves labor and employment law for the state of: New Mexico

My old former employer who was contracted with a temporary agency employed me and all was good and all until another employee stole from them, they tried to pass the blame to me, and fired me because I was from out of town, they caught the person and all... years pass and I forgot about them all together, now I am applying for work and have yet to find a job and have been unemployed for 3 years. I found out after an investigator for a job I applied, they asked a person who did not like me at all and was responsible for blaming me, that I was the one who tried to steal from the job and I was irresponsible and not trusted. What can I do? I asked the temp agency and they said my termination was due to contract ending, but the employee or person who was "familiar with my work" said that I was fired for computer security issues and mistrust from the company, what can I do? I am at a loss. Should I contact the HR department and ask for an apology? PLEASE Help, I feel so helpless and have been depressed because this person has spread false information that may cost me this job
