Premises Liability: Are Landlords Liable for Medical Bills

My question involves an injury that occurred in the state of: Alabama
While living in an apartment complex leakage from drain pipes came into my apartment which caused the carpet to get soaked. I immediately called maintenance and it took a few days for them to come out. It caused mildew. They did not dry vac but placed a plastic device to catch water coming from roof and divert it from coming into apartment. I began to experience after breathing issues and was taken to ER where I was asap taken to back due to my screaming (it hurt really bad)and given pain killers, antibiotics, and stayed in hospital for approx. 1 1/2 weeks. Diagnoses lung infection (bacterial) and pleurisy. Asked for carpet to be removed, management never removed carpet, Then the water heater busted upstairs and flooded my apartment for 12 hours, as soon a water heater broke I called maintenance and they came the next day by that time water was throughout the apartment, I requested to be moved temporarily to another apartment and was denied. I requested dry Vac and was told they would bring fans in tomorrow. Now I had nowhere to live but there in the apartment. They brought in fans and it blew under the carpet, the apartment filled with particles floating in the air and a smell. I called maintenance and they told me keep the fans blowing. I told them I can't breath. They said stay to the back. They turned the air on and the bacteria floated through the air. I began to get sick and was taken to ER where I was given breathing treatments, prescription for abuterol inhaler, and allergy medications. I am wearing a mask at the apartment. The complex requested rent and I have it but not until repairs are made. They agree but will not change out the flooded carpet which has mold on it and under it. I am going to a hotel with my ESA animal. Additionally my ESA hair is falling out and she has been constantly sneezing as well, taking her to VET. My question is should I ask the landlord to pay my medical expenses? Are they liable
