Traffic Lights, Signs and Controls: Automated Traffic Enforcement

My question involves a traffic ticket from the state of: California

Hello,

I recently received a VC 21453 C Fail to Stop Red Signal ticket via camera. The first picture on the violation shows my break lights clear and bright. I clearly remember stopping because I was in the new area and was battled by the complicated intersection. I was confused so I drove to the intersection to see what I did wrong. Although the ticket says "fail to Stop Red Signal' I think they meant I turned on Red. However, there was no sign indicating NO turn on red at the intersection. I did see a sign for no turn on red about 10 feet back and up from the turning lane. It was dark, and there was only ONE sign that said no turn on red. There is NO sign at the intersection itself.

is there anything I can do about this? please help.... it feels a bit unfair. Also, if the ticket would have been for 'no turn on red,' would I have been issued a different VC code?

thank you for your help in advance.
