My question involves real estate located in the State of: Minnesota
I am inheriting a part of our family cabin, with other family members. One of the neighbors built a pole barn that straddles the property line. It is a large structure and looking at the arial plat map and the property lines therein, it appears 50% of the structure is on my family cabins property. Does the fact 50% of the structure is built on our property produce a tax liability for us? I.e. does it increase the property tax we have to pay?
A second part to this question is that the structure was built probably 20 years ago and was originally built without my dad's permission. I think my dad and the neighbor may have came to some kind of agreement about seeding property from the neighbors land to our land, but I don't think there is any paper work acknowledging this. Plus from talking with the county assessor, I don't think we would be able to seed the property in the fashion I believe my dad may have agreed to. Will the fact that this structure is located partially on our property affect future sale or title/deed transfers of the property because of this mess?
Should I get a real estate attorney's help on this?
