My question involves a traffic ticket from the state of: CA
Hi, I have recently got my first traffic citation (it's been 3 weeks and still no official ticket in the mail, so I don't even know how much exactly am I supposed to pay). I have been stopped by the police officer, handed a citation for red arrow 21453(c) infraction and instead of discussing it with the officer on the spot like I probably should have, I froze and didn't :wallbang:. The situation was as follows: I approached the intersection and the arrow went yellow just as I was about to enter. I could probably stop, but it would involve slamming on my brakes, so instead I entered intersection and proceeded to turn left. I was about 50-60% through the intersection (at steady pace of 20mph, as indicated on my citation), when the arrow turned red. At which point I increased my speed to yield way to cars facing me that were about to get green light. About 100 yards after crossing the intersection I noticed police car light in my rear view mirror. Now my 1 question is - do I stand any chance fighting my ticket if I don't have any way to prove that what I did was actually completely legal? There is no red light camera at the intersection, there was no one in the car with me to confirm I entered on yellow arrow either. Based on the timing I'm assuming the police car must have been among the cars facing me when I did my left turn, hence in no position to see that I in fact entered the intersection on yellow, not red arrow, but I'm not 100% sure. It was 10:30pm at the time, rather dark and other than looking out for cars I did not pay attention to what they were. My 2 question is - if I decide to fight the ticket (whether in writing or in person) and will be found guilty do I still have a chance of going to traffic school and how much of court fees should I expect?
Thanks in advance for you input!
