Service and Repair: Customer Has Failed to Pay an Auto Body Repair Bill

My question involves a consumer law issue in the State of: South Dakota

I'm not 100% sure on where to post my question. I think it could fall into a few categories.
My auto body shop (small business) received a boat to be repaired and painted April 21st, 2016. The client dropped it off without an estimate for the labor and materials. We tried contacting him for about 3 weeks pertaining to the budget he had in mind. We finally reached him after numerous calls and we had a set price for him of $1,500, which he agreed. He had called to ask if the boat could be completely finished on May 27th, 2016. We went ahead and finished the boat, called our client and no answer/response. We continued our efforts for about 4 weeks. Finally, on June 27th, we reached his secretary and advised of the amount owed, as well as, a daily storage fee of $25. Our client called after we spoke to the secretary, said he'd be able to pick the boat up that Tuesday, June 28th. Client did not show up. On July 19th, a certified letter was sent out containing an invoice for the unpaid bill, we also advised the client of a possible mechanic's lien. Client contacted us on that Thursday, July 21st stating boat would be picked up and paid for the following Friday, July 22nd. No show for client. Client contacted us on Monday, July 25th 2016 stating he would pick the boat up that day. Once again, no show. Message was sent to him stating storage fee would increase to $50 daily.
At this point, we are exhausted with holding his property. Our work space is limited and it is costing us work that we can not bring in.
Would a mechanic's lien be the right action?
What are the possibilities for abandonment of property?
Any help at this point would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
