Modification of Custody: Gaining Custody Back from the Father

My question involves a child custody case from the State of: Mass
There was a time about 2 yrs ago when my daughter was in an abusive relationship, suffered from deep depression(for YRS)and hit an all time low and tried to take her own life.At that time when she was hospitalized the baby's father filed for temporary custody and got it.It was about a yr battle with the courts and he ended up with physical custody but they both got joint custody. She had been and still is on medication, going through counseling, attended some support groups, and is back to her old self.Everything with the father is a debate or a blame game or an issue.Although they have joint custody she has NO voice in any decisions concerning her daughter. If she makes a suggestion he is quick to shut it down.He resents her and us(her Family) because he thinks we are the cause of their break up.But it is him, he is an arrogant, condescending, controlling person who drained the life from her.He constantly belittled her, threatened that if she ever left she wouldn't get their daughter, and that he did.I feel my daughter didn't have good representation by her lawyer. There were letters from the Doctors that I don't believe the judge ever saw.Her lawyer told her this agreement was the best she was going to get.I never agreed with that but it was my daughter's decision. Now we feel that her father and other family members of his are badmouthing my daughter to their daughter, she is only 5.Things she has said you know would not come from her own thoughts and she said they were talking bad about her mommy but not to tell anyone. And she isn't listening and she is being mean at times to her mother. My daughter wants to try for custody from him, what do you think her chances are?He is a narcissist,he does drugs, and he lies constantly. It is impossible dealing with him.He uses their daughter as a weapon, what can she do?HELP?
