My question involves landlord-tenant law in the State of: Pennsylvania.
I am inquiring on behalf of my girlfriend. She left a house in which she had signed a lease with two or three roommates last July. According to her, the lease that she signed for this house expired last July, however her name is still currently on the lease because her now former roommates are refusing to sign a paper stating that she is no longer a resident. Apparently there is an issue in which the current occupants of the house may not be allowed to live in the house because they may not meet the income requirements. She has not lived in the house since last July and although her former roommates have been paying the full rent she does not want her name to be on the lease any longer. When we try to contact the landlord's office we are told they don't know anything about it and there is nothing they can do. Apparently the current tenants have to sign a piece of paper that states she no longer lives there and they refuse to do so. My girlfriend did not sign a renewal of the lease when the lease she previously had expired in July. Is there any legal action we can take? This all doesn't really make sense to me. Are any laws being broken here?
