My question involves an auto loan or repossession in the State of: California. In June 2015 my girlfriends dad bought my Mercedes for me. Total price $7200.00. He was the lien holder and I was the registered owner. Payments started July 20, 2015 for $207.96 a month for 36 months. I made July's, August and September's payments on time. In October me and the Daughter broke up the father asked me to move out of the house so I did and since I had to spend money to move he told me not to worry about the October to November car payment. Just pay it at the end of November. With all this being said My lienholder her dad lives in Lebanon. 3 days before the end of the month in November I called my lien holder and let him know that I could not make the payment till December 7th 2015. He then said if you can't afford to make the car payment you can always give the car back and I let him know that I was just waiting on a work check to clear the bank that took 10 days to clear. He said no problem just be a man of your word and make the payments so on December 7th I went to the Wells Fargo and deposit $625 into the bank account for the car account which caught me all the way up to January 20th 2016. Two days later I had private investigator repo people calling me telling me that he no longer wanted to be the lienholder he wanted me to give up the car to him or pay $7,000 cash and that was the only way I was going to be able to keep the car I didn't told the private investigators and repo people I have all my receipts I have made every payment I am NOT behind and then hung up on them I called my lienholder immediately and ask him what was going on that he had promised me I could pay the car on that date so I did and paid it an extra month in advance and he said that he was now coming after me for the money for the house that I lived in with his daughter. The private investigators then started harassing my ex wife my kids my job trying to repo the car I called the sheriff's, I called the police department everyone said that it was a civil matter he could not repossess the car I told the private investigators never to call me again and then continue to try to get ahold of my lien holder and I could not. On January 6, 2016 I got up to go get in my car for work and my car has been repossessed, I then called the sheriff's and ask him what had happened? How come he was able to have the tow company repossess it when they had been telling me for an entire month that it was a civil matter and he could not do that. My payments are completely up to date... I'm not behind at all. I have full coverage insurance on it and the repo people are telling me to not contact my lien holder. And he wants the car back he is the legal owner and there's nothing I could do about it. What can I do? The repo people will not let me get nothing out of the vehicle and my Lien holder is in Lebanon. I have all my receipts a one page contract that shows just to make my payments every month and nothing else. My ex girlfriend and her siblings do live close to me but will not give me his number what can I do? I've been without my car for 2 days now. ??
