I recently received a speeding citation in Southern California {22349 (b) VC} by being clocked at 76 MPH in 55 MPH zone. I am eligible for traffic school since this is my first ticket in the last 5 years (clean driving record). The court I am assigned to is 2-3 hours away from where I live.
I called the court clerk to get some information and I found that they were very courteous and very helpful and on the 2 occasions I called and talked to different clerks, they both said this: 1) The judge does not reduce the fine so don't try. 2) if the cop does not show up the judge will continue the trial and reschedule.
My question is: can I really trust what these court clerks are saying? They seemed very helpful and even told me to call back if I had any other questions. I was initially wanting to fight it and test my luck but with what they said, now I am not sure if it is worth fighting. My only defense is I genuinely thought the speed limit was 65 and I said that to the cop.
Thanks in advance.
