Child Care: Traveling Outside the Country

My question involves what it is I need to do to grant permission to travel outside of the country with my child. The father and I have 50/50 custodial agreement that was settled outside of the courts. He has agreed to let my child travel outside of the country but now, when I bring it up and ask to make sure it is okay that it will be for 2 weeks, he refuses to respond and ignores my efforts in getting an answer. I don't want to take it to court just to get permission but I am afraid I might have to just so we can travel and see my family.
