My question involves a traffic ticket from the state of: Indiana
I did not stop while pulling out of my work parking lot where there is no sidewalk, no stop sign, and is not an intersection. It was common for my coworkers not to, so I assumed it was no big deal. According to the law, you're supposed to stop before the stop sign or the sidewalk, but the road I turned onto had no sidewalks or stop sign. Another states comparable ordinance has a specific sentence calling out what to do when there is no sidewalk area (which I'm taking to mean the crosswalk lines that extends the sidewalk from one side of the road to the other.) I'm nervous to fight the ticket in court, but seeing as it's not just a small fine and I've never had a traffic violation, I'd like to know if I have a case here.
Cited ordinance IC 9-21-8-42 (Indiana) :
Sidewalks; approaching from an alley, driveway, or building
Sec. 42. A person who drives a vehicle within a business or residence district that is emerging from an alley, a driveway, or a building shall stop the vehicle immediately before driving onto a sidewalk or into the sidewalk area extending across an alleyway or a private driveway.

Another states additional sentence from their comparable law:
"or in the event there is no sidewalk area, shall stop at the point nearest the street to be entered where the driver has a view of approaching traffic"
