Defenses to Eviction: Roommates Lawyer Signed Agreement Without My Permission

My question involves landlord-tenant law in the State of: NYC

Background:
From the beginning my roommate claimed to own the house (big lie) so he was renting to us as equal roommates & we paid him the rent. We have been paying every month for the last year. We happened to find an eviction notice w rent arears $36,000. (2000/mon) finding out he’s not the owner, wasn’t paying before we got here & never applied our money to rent. We never had lease but do have receipts. All bills in our name.
Current situation:
He got another eviction notice w his name & Jane & John Doe. He got an attorney & took me with him. But roommate made it very clear that he was only representing him... not us. That we were getting out of this on a technicality. Day of court he says lawyer going & we didn’t need to (we were on our way) bc it was just formality. Ended up the lawyer signed & spoke for us (other roommate as well) & went into agreement w other attorney wout letting us know.
We have been scammed & lied to &’stolen from since the beginning.

What is our likelihood of restoring this case back to calendar?
