Cell Phone Use

My question involves labor and employment law for the state of: oregon/California

I work in a call center. I recently received a misconduct warning for not using my cell phone to conduct company business. I had to call an internal group for support. I used call center software to make the call instead of my cell phone. At the company I work for a misconduct warning is very serious, it’s basically killed my career.

Is it wrong for my workplace to do this? I want the misconduct removed or receive compensation. What could I expect?
