Service and Repair: Verbal Authorization and New Charges: Enough to Keep Vehicle

My question involves a consumer law issue in the State of: MO

I made a rookie mistake. My car broke down on the weekend and I had it towed to a dealership. I called them on Monday and they said it'd cost $300 to mill the cylinders, and $1600 to remove them and put them back in, and that would fix my issue. They also said there'd be an $89 diagnostic fee. I told them over the phone to do it.

A week later, they called to tell me they removed the cylinders and it needs much more work. They sent me an email with a quote for almost $5,000. This is more than the value of the vehicle, and certainly outside what I can afford even if I wanted to pay it.

I told them no, there's no way I can do that. I figured I'd get the car back and sell it as-is. They said if I pay $1600 plus $500 for a mechanic diagnostic fee, they will give it back. They didn't even bother putting the cylinders back into the vehicle, so I don't know why it's the full $1600. And the diagnostic fee was $89. To be clear, NOTHING has been repaired on the vehicle.

They've had it for almost 2 months now, and once it hits 90 days they want to sell it. Do I have any recourse?
