My question involves criminal law for the state of: MI
I had a brush with the law that resulted in an investigation and several charges awhile back. When I met with my lawyer, he told me he was trying to negotiate a plea that pleased all parties including myself, the prosecutor, and the detective in charge of the investigation. I was shocked to hear that the detective had input beyond the point of forwarding a criminal complaint to prosecutors. Is it typical for detectives to have this sort of power/input in adjudication of crimes? I thought this power was strictly reserved for judges and prosecutors.
