Traffic Accidents: Traffic Accident. Hit a Car That Had Rear Ended Another Vehicle on the Free Way

My question involves a traffic accident that occurred in the state of: Washington. I was traveling in the far left lane on the free way in pretty steady traffic. Not stop and go. As I started to change lanes the car that I was merging in behind of rear ended the vehicle in front of them causing them to stop suddenly and giving me no time to change course. I hit the driver's side door of the vehicle that rear ended the other vehicle.
The owner of the vehicle that I hit has omitted the fact that he rear ended another vehicle when he filed his insurance claim and even presented a witness saying that there were only two vehicles involved contrary to the information we were given by the patrolman on scene and the evident front end damages to his vehicle . This leads me to believe that he is trying hide the fact that he caused the accident by rear ending another vehicle.
Narrowed down to brass tacks.... who is responsible for what damage. There is significant damage to my truck and his door is dented and the window is broken.
