I have a question about Survivor Benefits for my father. My mother passed away in November 2015. My mom was collecting social security of around 234$ based on her work history prior to retirement. My father collects social security around 267$ a month on basis of his work history. I was under the impression that my father would receive around 60% of my mother's benefits which is 60% of 234$. But Social security told us that my father's benefit amount 267$ is higher than my mom's amount so he will not receive anything from my mom's social security.
Please advise.
