My question involves insurance law for the state of: Georgia.
Hi all, I'm new and hoping for some help bc I've been tossed back and forth between my insurance and the hospital and can't get a straight answer. Here's the run down, my wife recently had an ultrasound for her pregnancy performed, which we confirmed before scheduling was covered by our insurance and upon checking in also confirmed it was covered by our insurance and paid the required co-pay before having the ultrasound performed. 3 weeks later, we got a bill for $600 from the clinic. When I called and talked to them, they said that the procedure (ultrasound) was covered by our insurance, but the dr. who performed the ultrasound does not accept our insurance, so we would have to pay her out-of-pocket. They billed the insurance company $1,600 for the ultrasound procedure and billed us $600 for the doctor.
So my question is, legally can they do this? Can they tell me upfront that everything is covered by insurance and then afterwards bill me $600? How can I fight this or how can I avoid this in the future, since I asked multiple times and was assured that everything was covered in advance? Thanks for any help, I've tried to share my frustration and confusion with the clinic, but all they keep saying is that the procedure was performed so I have to pay for it and the due date is approaching. If its not paid, then it will be sent to a collection agency.
Thanks in advance.
