My question involves court procedures for the state of: California
I am caregiver and POA for my 89 year old father who lives with me. He was involved in a lawsuit with a care facility that settled the case through mediation in his favor.
I had assumed that the funds from the settlement would be dispersed by check or some other means but the attorney tells me it must by law go into a blocked account, conservatorship or some other situation with myself as trustee. This seems odd to me can somebody direct me to that particular law? The attorney has given few details as to how such an arrangement would work nor identified the particular law. I don't really want to take on any more responsibility or reporting for dad's affairs that I need to. Dad has no guardianship, conservator or anything like that.
