My question involves a child custody case from the State of: VA, Loudoun County
I am wondering if I messed up or if a company took advantage of our situation.
I got information on a mediation company and was told that it is a good option to use mediation instead of the court and lawyers. My ex and I get along somewhat well so we decided to use a mediator. Everything is done and we have all the paperwork (Custody and Child Support) ready to go to the court. I was told that we did not need to have a case with the court to do the mediation and that the mediator will take care of the paperwork that we will have to take to court. We were told we need to drop it off so my ex went but was told because we don't have a case with the court they cannot accept our paper. I had called the court a few weeks ago and I was told that when we bring in the paper, the judge will look at it and if there are no concerns or questions they will just approve it and we are all done. I am not able to find an answer on the courts website and the office of the mediator stopped responding to my emails. The mediator itself was not very helpful at all in regards to what to do with the paperwork. I had asked a few friends that also went to mediation but they live in a different county.
What do I need to do to get the paperwork accepted by the court? How can I open a case with the court if its necessary? Its not just in regards to custody but also in regards to child support and a change in support due do me moving. Or any advice on who I need to contact to get the right information?
