Establishing Paternity: Establishing Paternity Process While I Am Traveling

My question involves paternity law for the State of: Washington

My son, who is 8, has a biological father who lives in a non-reciprocating country in the EU. The father comes to the US once per year for 4 days for business. He stands in a booth at a trade show. Next year the trade show will be in Iowa. I am considering serving him there to establish paternity. My question revolves around the procedure for doing this. First, must I be in the United States during this process? I will be out of the US at the time serving would occur, arriving back 14 days afterwards. Also, what is the timeline for my son's portion of the testing and for my signing of any documents that result from serving the father? Will the father have to stay in the US? I do not want to make the process difficult for either one of us, so if it cannot be done with me out of the country then I will wait until the following year.

Also, once paternity is established, and we have a parenting plan, what are some of the forms that visitation might take? The father has a very busy and thriving business in another country and will probably not have much time to travel here to spend with my son. But I feel my son is at an age when he should know his father, and this time around, I don't expect the father to resist visitation other than from a time-commitment stand point. Also, I do not expect him to resist the child support payments. He has grown very wealthy from the business.

I remain single and am not cohabiting with anyone. Thank you for your help.
