My question involves a child custody case from the State of: Missouri
My relationship with my children has suffered tremendously as a result of my ex-wife consistently talking bad about me to them. She continuously makes them feel guilty for wanting to be with me. It has gotten so bad my daughter will no longer come and visit me as she feels that I am to blame for the divorce because "mom says you were never good to her, you never made enough money, and you always told her she was fat" (none of which is true) "she wanted the divorce to be easy but you kept fighting for half of everything, but you don't deserve half". My ex-wife continues to tell them our finances and that she should be the only person who received any assets in the divorce. She also tells them that they will lose everything if they stay with me. If my daughter does come to visit me, her mother constantly texts her asking when she will be home and how surprised she is that my daughter is even associating with me. As a result, my daughter tells me she has to go or her mom will be upset. My son is a little sharper and can see through a good portion of this, but at times comes home and is in tears and yelling at me and saying that mom is starving because you won't give her money. I am court ordered to pay half of all of their expenses as is she. She is primary residential with my daughter and I am primary on my son. We have a 50/50 custody split. However, my ex wife has yet to pay for any of my sons expenses. I pay the entirety of the cost of medical insurance as well. I do not neglect my responsibilities of any kind. My daughter wants to attend a trip to another country with her classmates that will cost roughly $4000. Naturally, I cannot afford $2000. In response, her mother has told her, once again, I am a "worthless dad" and now she cannot go. I'm at my wits end with this. I have no idea what to do. There are many more details involved in this including my ex-wife leaving my son unsupervised for 15 hours during her visitation that involved the police as he was found at 10pm walking down the highway. I feel as though limiting her visitation will help deter and decrease the amount of impact she will have on my relationship with them. I'm just not sure if the constant defamation of me to them is enough. I do have emails and text messages of her repetitiously saying i'm a terrible father and the kids know it. What do I do?!?!?!?
