My question involves landlord-tenant law in the State of: virginia
Ill start with a background: i signed a lease agreement with a roommate to pay half of rent for a year. On this agreement it says that we are responsible for our own utilities.
All the bills are in my name (she wouldnt give me information needed to put her on), and we split them down the middle. She has tried to make me pay more on several occasions, and has even withheld her share over a petty spat.
I cant live with her anymore due to personal reasons, and i agree to continue paying my portion of rent as per the signed agreement. My question is: if i dont physically live there or use the utilities, am i still obligated to pay them? I would cancel them when i left, of course, and have her set up her own.
