My question involves labor and employment law for the state of: fl
First, I'm not sure this is the correct place to post. It may need to be moved. If so, sorry.
I work for a national large corporate childcare company. Recently, after hours the corporation, including my Center manager rearranged the furniture in our rooms. The next morning I noticed that some large and/or heavy pieces were not properly, or at all, secured to the wall, as they previously were. I reported this to my Assistant Director. I did not witness the Facilities team come in and properly secure anything.
Within 2 weeks, a child in our one year old room pulled a piece of furniture on himself. He broke a finger and needed stiches. It required a trip to the hospital. He is a foster child. I was not at work when this happened but came in about 20 minutes later.
A screw was now in what was (2 weeks earlier, the last time I closely saw the furniture) an empty hole. My company is claiming the furniture was secured to the wall and somehow the kid pulled it down on himself. Facilities was already on site securing furniture all around our center, as it was not previously done. The furniture in question was also secured. CPS is conducting an investigation. I have not been asked any questions.
What is my legal responsibility? I do not KNOW, but strongly believe my company is engaging in a cover-up. What is my risk?
