Hi, I have heard many people complain that they get different answers from Social Security Admin and that it depends on who you talk to. Seems like there would be a certain guideline or format all of them would have to follow so everyone gets the same answer instead of confusion.
Anyways, I have an understanding that I can collect off my ex spouse's social security acct since we were married 16 years. ex spouse has re-married but I am not married. Ex spouse is retiring this summer at age 60 but has other means of income also. I myself will be 62 this spring and would like to retire but I don't know how this works. Ex spouse income is 3 times more than mine & has worked approx 40 years total. Can I retire this year based on ex spouse's account even though ex spouse will be retiring at age 60 and not continuing to work until 65 or 66 (full retirement age)?
How would all this play out?
Any advice will be most helpful
Thank you
