My question involves a consumer law issue in the State of: New York.
Long story short: My ex and I got a car before we broke up. I got a loan in my name for this vehicle. shortly afterwards, we split and I signed over the title to my ex. They agreed to continue the payment even though it was in my name.
Now, 5 years later... I got served by a sheriff for a 7,000+ debt for a car that was repossessed 2 years ago. I contacted my ex and they acting like they had no idea there was that much owed on the vehicle. They never contacted me about this repossession.
So my question is, now what? Can I do anything about this situation? Will I be stuck paying for trusting in my ex to continue paying for this car?
