My question involves landlord-tenant law in the State of: Illinois
Pipes burst in rented townhome after getting back from holiday- uninhabitable and repairs will take months so tenant asked union for help breaking lease and was able to do so. Week after moving out landlord emailed stating that because it was tenants neglect that caused pipes bursting he is not giving security deposit back and is demanding tenant pay remaining rent until lease is up.
What are options for the tenant?
