Im Being Harassed and Threatened to Being Sued

My question involves court procedures for the state of: WA

Hello,
I started a business in WA state back in 2013. When first opening up my business I was looking online for a company to make me a custom company logo with the design in mind. I was then going to have the logo painted on our wall along with our store name.

When I contact artist an artist who I wanted to paint my mural, I told him I was having the logo (of an alien) created and gave him the concept of what I wanted painted on the wall (Store name and logo). He said he could create the logo for me as he would rather do his own work than copy someone else's. Fair enough. We worked out a price and he did the work. (So I was now working backwards)

After the logo was created I sent it to an online company who re-drew the logo for me from scratch (with small changes) in an online file so I could use it on my business cards and my webpage.

Fast forward to 4 years later, the artist who has a strong following on social media posted images of our shop threatening me with lawyers and lawsuits saying we are profiting from and stealing his art work by selling t-shits with his art work on them. We now have his fans/friends/follwers messaging us and threatening to have us shut down for stealing.

I am under the impression that if I paid for a logo or artwork (around 2k if I remember correctly), technically speaking, I then bought his design from him. I own it. Am I not correct? Its my shops logo, can I not do with it as a please?

I understand if I took his other artwork and copied it without paying him, but I didnt do that. Only what he drew for me. As far as receipts or contracts go. Nothing. Just a hand signed piece of paper that he received $xxx cash for work preformed.

Please let me know if there is anything I can do. I am a small business owner and now I am being harassed, my hard work and reputation is being ruined.

Thank you
