My question involves paternity law for the State of New York: 14 years ago I had a one night stand with a woman in New York. She contacted me recently saying that she thought I could be the father of her 13 year old daughter and wanted me to take a paternity test. She originally thought the father was someone else, although she said that the father on the birth certificate is left blank. For several reasons I have serious doubts that the daughter is mine but if she is I will do the right thing. Can I be forced to pay back child support? Can I even be compelled to take the DNA test at this point? I just want to know what I'm looking at legally before I do anything. Thanks.
I forgot to add that I am currently married with children and living in California.
