Hello, I wanted to know if it is possible for me to change my child's last name if his dad went to prison? The state where we reside is Texas.
Out of all honesty, my child's dad was a good guy until he got on drugs and became very abusive. We were in a relationship for almost 10yrs. I would say for the last 1yr. 1/2 of our relationship he changed. My child's dad never really wasn't in his life, it was because I would always try to force the issue. He has never had a personal relationship with my second child.
I ended up giving my life to Christ, got married to an evangelist. I would call to tell my child's father to call and check on the kids while I had to go to speaking engagements, or go to visit them...but he never did. So I just let him be. Our oldest kid is named after him....and I fear that out of retaliation someone might try to murder my son.
Their dad has been indicted for First degree capital murder. The children call my husband dad, and the oldest is 12 and doesn't want anything to do with his biological dad, because he lied to him and hurt him down through the years. The 5year old, doesn't know him, he only knows my husband as dad....my husband was in his life when he was 1 1\2 years old. I separated from their dad, because he changed and became violet and abusive, he never was a bad person, never had a record until he got on drugs, and I left because I didn't want to end up dead.
